Adaptive Kayak Launch
After five years of planning, fundraising and construction, the adaptive kayak launch, accessible kayak racks and accessible picnic tables were unveiled in June 2018 at the Tohickon launch area. “The kayak racks, the tables, all that is part of our plan to provide, for those adaptive paddlers, an easy way to access our lake,” said Mike Quinn, previous Chair of Friends of Nockamixon State Park.
The launch includes a gangway and aluminum floating with ADA features, making it easier for people with limited mobility or in wheelchairs to get in and out of kayaks, canoes and other boats.
“This is one way we can make them independent because they can actually come here, get their kayak off one of these racks, roll it down there with their chair, get in the kayak and take off and they don’t need assistance”, said Quinn.
